As the national symbol of the United States and a spiritual symbol for native people for far longer, the Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is an iconic North American bird and is a symbol of bravery, courage, and freedom. Forty years ago the Bald Eagle was on the verge of extinction but was able to make an incredible come back due to the efforts of the Endangered Species Act!
